Photos from a Sunday outing to Mt. Longonot, an inactive volcano about an hour from Nairobi in the Great Rift Valley. The hike was steep (no switchbacks here!) and dusty, but the views of the valley and the sounds of the birds deep in the crater below made it worthwhile. Of course, the good company of my fellow Kiva Fellows was also a treat!

Close-up of a Whistling Acacia. See the insects? They burrow into these growths and when the wind blows over the holes, they create a whistling noise.
